TIPS AND TRICKS

  • Feel free to use any kind of Cheerios cereal that you prefer – plain Cheerios, Honey Nut Cheerios, Peanut Butter Cheerios, chocolate cheerios, etc)
  • You could substitute agave syrup for the honey
  • You could substitute almond butter or cashew butter for the peanut butter
  • If you don’t have crunchy peanut butter, creamy peanut butter will work just fine
  • You will want to be sure that you use a natural peanut butter – which means that the only ingredient that is in the peanut butter is peanuts (and maybe a little salt). Peanut butter is sometimes loaded with sugar and other ingredients that aren’t needed for this recipe.
  • If you or your kids prefer bars, you can always pour this mixture into a 9 x13 pan lined with greased aluminum foil.

  1. Joanna says:

These look like one of our children's favorite desserts, Cheerio Bars. It is made with cheerios, peanut butter and marshmallows. I'm thinking they will enjoy this one since it is so close. Will these firm up so you can pick them up without getting all messy?

  2. Cyd says:

These set up really well and they aren't messy.

  3. Joanna says:

I made these last night and followed the recipe exactly. I was hoping these would be a quick grab and go breakfast. I could not get them to firm up enough to pick them up. I was making them and a friend asked for the recipe. Maybe she can see if hers firm up enough to pick them up. If not, I'm wondering if it can be the difference in humidity?

  4. Sharon says:

I made them and they fell apart. What did I do wrong?

  5. Carol says:

I had the same problem. They taste great but fall apart even when refrigerated.

  6. Kerry says:

How should I store these, and how long should they last? Mine set up perfectly btw and the whole family LOVES them!

  7. Shannon says:

Once I stired the heated honey into the peanut butter it solidified. ? So I have a bowl of Cheerios and chunks of peanut utter mixture. ?

  8. Cyd says:

In an airtight container in the fridge.

  9. Rmj says:

I was reading the recipe and it didn't seem like they would stay firm and not be messy. I like the idea of adding other ingredients, though a little at a time at the end. And maybe scoop into bakers mini muffin paper cups. I also wonder why mixing the honey and peanut butter would cause it to solidify. There was no response to that issue

  10. Kayla says:

Heat peanut butter, add honey, and then heat again. Not sure if you just heated the honey from what you wrote? If I misunderstood, nevermind! :) Just trying to be helpful.

  11. Crystal says:

I can't find the PB cheerios anywhere. Is there another cereal I can use instead?

  12. Cyd says:

Honey Nut Cheerios will work great in this recipe too!

  13. Melissa says:

I just made these but with rice crispies as it was all I had on hand. My kids loved making them and love the finished product. Ours set in less than an hour just sitting on the counter, not falling apart or messy at all! Thanks for the idea.

  14. Lara says:

Could be differences in your microwaves. In order for the sugar to reach the point of candied, which is what makes it set up in haystacks as well, the mixture needs to reach a hot enough temperature. Try again but mix your peanut butter and honey in a saucepan and bring it to a simmer or light boil while constantly stirring. (I'm a home ec teacher <3)

  15. Mona says:

    Taste good but fall apart.

  16. Troy says:

Can some one tell me how many carbs these are please thanks.....

  17. Cyd says:

Just click on the MAGIC button under the main photo in the post, then click on NUTRITION in the upper left side. It will give you all of the nutritional information on this recipe.

  18. Kathy says:

You are not supposed to microwave honey. I made these and they are delicious but did not stick together. Next time I'm going to try combining peanut butter and honey in saucepan.

  19. Catherine O'Neill says:

Mine set up just fine! I used the PB I had on hand, one from Trader Joe's that is natural but that I've noticed doesn't separate much.

  20. Cyd says:

We haven't had a problem with them holding together. Try decreasing the cheerios by 1 cup.

  21. Karen M. says:

Sorry, pardon? I need the carbs too and do not see a "MAGIC" button. Can you please be more specific? Thanks.

  22. Cyd says:

Hi Karen. We just switched over to a new site. The MAGIC button is now right under the main picture on the post. You can now click on it and then click on NUTRITION. It will give you all the nutritional info including carbs.

  23. Karen M. says:

Ahh, there we go! Many thanks.

  24. Joyce says:

Too sweet! I cut down both PB and honey by at least 30% and it was still too sweet. Even my daughter doesnt want to eat it because its so sweet. Not sure if ill try this again.

  25. Lindsay says:

i had trouble as well. i will definitely try the saucepan method next time. Also, could it be that the type of PB you use matters? i ran out of natural, so i used half natural and half "regular" crunchy PB. I looked at other similar recipes, and a lot of them use almost a 1:1 ratio of PB:honey, and almost half the cheerios. i will keep trying.

  26. Amy says:

    Do these freeze well?

  27. Rhonda says:

    Try chocolate Cheerios!

  28. Karen says:

What’s the magic button? Also wanted nutrition info

  29. Cyd says:

Hi Karen. When we updated our blog we lost a lot of the magic buttons. We'll get it on the site tomorrow. If you scroll down to the bottom of the recipe it will say "Get Nutrition Info". It won't be on until later in the morning. Just click on it when we put it on and it will take you to the nutritional information on this recipe. But for now you can find it at this link-https://www.myrecipemagic.com/peanut-butter-breakfast-bites-2502084284.html

  30. Devin says:

Mine didn’t stick either. Frustrating. They look good and pictures can be deceiving.

  31. Angela says:

Can you use peanut butter without the nuts?

  32. Cyd says:

You can definitely use creamy peanut butter for this recipe.

  33. Nadia Nassar says:

This might be a good point to mention in the recipe so that people don't waste food. Thanks a lot

  34. Meg says:

Can I used regular PB as opposed to natural PB? I don’t care for the consistency or taste of natural peanut butter, plus I don’t like the oil separation. What adjustments would I need to make?

  35. Cyd says:

You will be fine using regular peanut butter in place of the natural peanut butter. I was just reading over all of the comments on this recipe. I'm hoping that using regular peanut butter will help hold yours together well. It looks like some people had problems and others did not. Ours have always turned out. Best of luck. They are so delicious.

  36. Emiky says:

My kids love these. I just made a batch for the morning for breakfast this week. Patting myself on the back for making my mornings a bit easier! Thanks for the recipe!

  37. Lori says:

Ours are cooling now. I used regular creamy peanut butter. I melted it in the microwave. It was already melted when I added the honey and so I did not microwave it again. If ours doesn't set up, I wonder if this is where I may have gone wrong. I should have ran the microwave again to heat up the honey. After reading your comment, I wonder if others have done the same as me.

  38. Brittany says:

    Good idea with Rice Krispies

  39. Karen Mellinger says:

I just made these. After following the instructions they seemed dry so I heated up more peanut butter. Unfortunately, I think mine may fall apart too. I think the key factor may be the temp of the honey and peanut butter together. It's just not long enough to do 40 seconds and then 30 more. It just doesn't get hot enough.

  40. abc says:

Mine fell apart as well. I tried to cook the peanut butter and honey long enough, but it ended up burning after just a few minutes on super low. Wish I knew how they made these work because this was a huge bust for me.

  41. Alea says:

These sound wonderful. I cannot wait to try. Reading the comments, I feel like an umpire is needed. The bully-ish remarks (that makes one feel bad) are unbelievable. "They fell apart, blah, blah..." Stop it! Think of the author and the time, energy and emotion to share this recipe. Shame on all of you for just being crappy. She shared the recipe, which works for her. Blaming her for "wasting your time, money and ingredients" is ridiculous. Kudos Six Sisters Stuff!!

  42. Cyd says:

Thanks so much Alea!! We love these breakfast bites! They are a great little snack too.

  43. Pat says:

Thank you for saying this. I get so tired of downright rude comments. It is one thing to ask for help fixing a recipe. Usually it is something that I did in a hurry to cause it not to work. That is on the person making it not the person working hard to put it out here for everyone.

  44. Nabs says:

Hi there! I can't wait to try these tonight! Do they freeze well?

  45. Carrie says:

Hi! What brand of peanut butter did you use? I wonder if that has to do with yours setting up while others didn’t..?

  46. Sally says:

It's not rude to share your experience of the recipe. I find it really helpful when people comment so you can understand how to troubleshoot when you make the recipe yourself.

  47. Megan says:

    What about corn flakes?

  48. Kacie says:

What’s considered a serving size for the Breakfast bites ?

  49. Cyd says:

Our kids gobble these down for a quick breakfast or an after school snack. I would say a serving is about 2-3.

  50. SP says:

Can I add less honey if all I have is regular (non-natural) pb?

  51. Susan says:

She didn’t microwave honey.. added honey to already microwaved PB

  52. Tracey N. says:

How do I store these? and How long do they last?

  53. Momma Cyd says:

You could store in an airtight container or freezer bag and they should be fine in the fridge for up to a week. (They really don't last long at our house)
